About kumkumadi tailam
“कुंकुमाद्यमिदं तैलमश्विभ्यां निर्मितं पुरा ॥ “भै०र० ६०/१११
An ancient ayurvedic composition of 21 herbs in sesame oil (Til tailam), kumkumadi tailam has found acceptance with the masses through ages owing to its wonderful cosmetic and therapeutic properties. The perpetual wisdom of Ayurveda first expressed itself through Lord Brahma and then flowed through Daksh Prajapati and they transmitted it to the two Ashwini-Kumar brothers. They gave the knowledge further to Lord Indra, who further imparted it to the earthly sages, i.e Rishi Bharadwaj( according to Charak), and Dhanvantari (according to Sushruta). Acharaya Chakradutta believes that kumkumadi tailam was first manufactured by Ashwini Kumar.
The first textual reference of kumkumadi tailam can be traced to “Ashtang hridayam”. Then, Acharaya chakradutta described three types of kumkumadi tailam. Our product has been manufactured based on one of them. It has been manufactured according to the principles of “Tail pak vidhi”, so as to ensure that the oil is replete with the magical properties our wise acharayas envisaged it to possess. Some of them are as follows:
Praise of kumkumadi tailam:
सप्तरात्रप्रयोगेनभवेत्कांचनसन्निभम ॥ भै०र० ६०/१११
The skin that is treated with kumkumadi tailam for seven continuous nights will glow with a radiance of gold.
Therapeutic value:
नीलिकापीड़िकाव्यंगानभ्यंगादेवनाश्येत ॥ भै०र० ६०/१११
It destroys ‘Nilika’ (hyper pigmentation present on skin other than face), ‘pidika’ (papules), ‘vyanga’ (hyperpigmentation of the face), and other skin disorders.
Cosmetic value:
“एतन्मुखवर्णप्रसादनम” – भै०र० ६०/११ ०
It evens out skin complexion and helps it become brighter, healthier, and more radiant.
Facial skin and its diseases
The skin on the face is similar in structure to the skin on other parts of the body except for the fact that it is thinner, more delicate, and contains more appendage (hair follicles, sweat glands, oil glands) concentration. This is because Facial skin is more prone to wear and tear, injuries, microbial invasions, and sunburns due to which it needs to be more tolerant to injuries and resistant to infections.
Acne, blemishes, dark circles, lustreless skin, sunburns, scars, etc. are the issues that are both the causes and effects of stress. To address these problems, we have brought you the nectar from ancient Ayurveda. Kumkumadi tailam has been described to work upon ‘vyanga’, ’nilika’, ’pidika’ and ‘varnaprasadana’ which are a part of the ‘kshudraroga’ or the skin diseases. These are caused by an imbalance in Vata and Pitta doshas upon which Kumkumadi tailam works the best.
Vyanga- Hyperpigmentation of the face, melasma, chloasma
Pigmentation of the skin is primarily due to melanin produced by melanocytes by the process of melanogenesis. It is a series of oxidative reactions controlled by various enzymes. Tyrosinase acts as the main catalyst.
According to Ayurveda, Bhrajak pitta is responsible for skin color, complexion, and radiance. An imbalance in Vata and Pitta along with mansik stresses such as krodha (anger), shoka (grief), ayas (mental exhaustion) causes Vyanga roga.
Hyperpigmentation is caused by sun exposure, injury due to inflammation, and acne. UV rays are responsible for sun exposure related hyperpigmentation.
